RST’s Demron® Shield Receives NIJ 0108.01 Certification

september 18,2010

Miami-based Radiation Shield Technologies (RST) -- developer of Demron® radiation-blocking products that provide protection from infrared radiation and heat as well as all nuclear, biological, chemical, bomb and ballistic threats -- announces its Demron High Energy Nuclear/Ballistic IED RDD Shield has received the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) 0108.01 Certification for Ballistic Resistant Protective Materials.
The shield features the company's patented Demron-W fabric, which is NFPA Class 2 Certified for the 1994-2007 Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents. It serves as a protective cover for first responders and may be used as a suppression blanket for improvised explosion devices, radiological dispersal devices, and radiation assured devices. According to RST, a single shield can decrease a radiation radius by more than 50 percent and reduce the number of people affected by between 75 and 91 percent.
"Radiation Shield Technologies is proud to receive NIJ 0108.01 Certification, reaffirming Demron's ability to provide the advanced multi-hazard protection first responders need in today's uncertain global environment," said Dr. Ronald DeMeo, president and CEO, RST, and Demron inventor. "RST's team of engineering and technical professionals continuously improves and enhances our entire product line. Our collaboration with independent testing facilities enables us to experiment with multiple test variables and bullet velocities to achieve or exceed performance requirements for every level of protection our clients require."
